1. Maharishi Ayurveda recommendations
• In addition to common sense measures such as washing the hands, etc., good Maharishi AyurVeda routine is important in helping to prevent catching a cold or flu in the cold season. Please always follow the advice of your local health authorities!

Here are for example the official websites from the US and Netherlands
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention.html
Wash your hands frequently
Avoid close contact
Stay home if you’re sick
Cover coughs and sneezes
Wear a face mask if you are sick
Clean and disinfect your surroundings
https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/news/2020/03/12/new-measures-to-stop-spread-of-coronavirus-in-the-netherlandsThe best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to viruses, and in addition, we need also to strengthen the immune system and our overall state of health.• If possible our daily routine should include tongue scraping, Gandusha, Nasya, Abhyanga, Yoga Asanas, Pranayama, exercise, sufficient sleep, regular meal times, eating only when hungry, avoiding undue stress and strain, and of course most important is regular practice of Transcendental Meditation and the TM-Sidhi programme.

• Spring is Kapha season and therefore we should be careful with Kapha aggravating food and drinks (i.e. cold, heavy, oily) because a cold or flu is often caused by a Kapha imbalance.

• It is better to avoid or reduce sweets and dairy products (especially if they are cold), avoid snacks between meals, do not overeat, and have only a light dinner.

• Taking Maharishi Amrit Kalash M4 and M5 provides additional support for our overall health.

2. Maharishi AyurVeda products
The following herbal remedies are traditionally used for prevention and treatment of viral infections, but should best be prescribed by a Maharishi AyurVeda Vaidya or doctor. It is always wise to consult your Ayurveda practitioner on any symptoms that manifest strongly.

Please remember the main thing is prevention of Ama (undigested waste material), having a good diet (fresh, organic, and easy to digest) and a proper daily routine.

MA 927 tab – a mild digestive aid
MA 154 tab – stronger digestive aid
MA 505 (Triphala) – Rasayana, laxative, supports other preparations
MA 687 tab – as prophylactic and for acute respiratory infections it contains licorice to protect lungs (COVID-19 attacks lungs)
MA 1404 or MA 1405 tab – for fever and also for prevention during influenza season; contains tulsi
MA 634 (oil) – for steam inhalation
MA 630 – for fever, after meals; contains Mahasudarshan, classic Ayurvedic preparation
MA 697 – (contains Guggulu) for inflammation, infections, and growths when symptoms are apparent
The Veda products are best prescribed by your Ayurveda practitioner:
Veda 302 (liquid) for prevention: It cleanses Srotas (channels) and Ama and is taken once daily in the morning for two weeks as a preventive measure
Veda 327 (liquid) – strengthens the immune system, digestion, and liver function
Amrit Kalash (M4 and M5) – Rasayana to build up Ojas and strengthen the immune system, or MAV Chyavanprash Rasayana particularly for strengthening the respiratory system.
Veda 314 (liquid) – beneficial if you start to show symptoms of a cold or influenza

These products are available from MAP suppliers, for example:

Important: if you have the slightest symptoms of the beginning of a cold or flu stay at home, get plenty of rest, eat only when you are really hungry, sip hot water (which has been boiled for 10-20 min) every half hour, or drink ginger tea, vegetable soups, inhalation with MA 634, and take some of the above food supplements (Best is to get advice from a MAV Vaidya or MAV physician).
If you have a fever, dry cough and shortness of breath, it is probably flu, but be sure to call the public health services to get advice, whether or not is necessary to get tested for the Coronavirus

Remember that infection with the Coronavirus can be unnoticed, mild, or severe as in the case of flu. Probably everyone has had flu in their life so it is actually nothing new or frightening!

4. Additional recommendations from conventional holistic practices
•  Turmeric is among the strongest herbal supporters of the immune system. It should be taken with a good quality oil like extra virgin olive oil or ghee because it is fat soluble. Typically, it is ‘awakened’ by heating in hot oil, then added to vegetables.
• Vitamin C: High doses of intravenous vitamin C have been found effective against pneumonia complications associated with COVID-19 in China; orally one can take only a few grams (spread out is easiest) as higher doses could cause diarrhoea; there is no known toxicity level of vitamin C.
• Vitamin D plays an important role for our immune system and therefore especially in winter time we have to take care that our level of Vitamin D 3 is in the optimal range of 50–70 nmol/L.
• Magnesium: Many people are deficient in the essential mineral magnesium. It is used in hundreds of metabolic processes. Make sure you get enough for general health and particularly for maintaining good energy; you can find foods rich in magnesium and other nutrients at https://www.myfooddata.com/ or take some supplements (about 300-400mg/day)
• Zinc (20 mg/day) and Selenium (100 mcg/day)
• Onion, leeks, and nettles have been found to kill corona viruses in lab tests; other herbs have been found helpful as well.

5. A herbal tea to help prevent viral diseases
To 5 litres water, add 1/2 cup whole coriander seed, 1 teaspoon dry ginger powder, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon clove powder. Boil for 5 minutes. Then take it off the stove and add 1 tablespoon Jeera (whole cumin seed) and put the lid on to keep the essential oils in.

For 2 litres water take 1/3 of the above quantities. It is good to have it in the home or workplace and drink throughout the day. If it is too strong one can dilute it with more water.

Kapha tea is always good, for prevention and in case one is already infected.

It would be wise not go out in public unless necessary, especially where there are many people. And if one has any feeling of being unwell or sniffles, stay at home.

Trust and boost your immune system. It’s your best friend!

6. Our most fundamental resource: The Transcendental Meditation technique (TM)
The Transcendental Meditation technique (TM) is a useful tool for strengthening immunity to viruses. The restful alertness that TM produces is the opposite of stress. TM meditators have higher levels of circulating white blood cells that fight viruses and markedly reduced hospitalization in all categories of disease, with 73% lower rates for the category of Nose, Throat, and Lung diseases. This category includes diseases caused by viruses and bacteria, such as common colds, sinus infections, sore throat, bronchitis and pneumonia. Studies show that hospitalization rates and outpatient doctor visits are particularly reduced for older patients compared to age-matched controls.

7. Maharishi Aroma Therapy recommendations for viral infections
Many essential oils contain a large number of powerful constituents with antiviral and antibacterial effects.
Take internally as soon as you become aware of slight symptoms of getting a cold: 1 teaspoon honey + 1 drop Thyme essential oil, mix thoroughly and add ¼ cup slightly warm water, drink immediately.

The Panch Pandava formula pictured below is excellent for protection at this vulnerable time. Contact: customer-service@vedaroma.com.
